A207 metal case wiper seals are used to prevent foreign particles from entering the system.  

Special vulcanization processes are used during production.

These seals are interference-fitted into the groove, and proper tools should be used during assembly to avoid damage to the seal and grooves.

The nutring lip of the seal reduces oil film thickness on the rod. 

Pressure build-up occurs between the rod seal and a A207 metal cage wiper, therefore, in order to prevent pushing the seal out of the housing, pressure relief solutons should be preferred.
